Coffee Dust spiced apples - the perfect healthy dessert

The Dessert That Took 20 Seconds and Zero Regrets

There's a particular kind of joy that comes from accidentally making something delicious.

Not a "I followed twelve steps and watched four YouTube videos" delicious. Not a "I let the dough rest overnight" delicious. The other kind. The kind where you look at what you just made, look back at the clock, and think — wait. That's it? That counted?

This is that.

Here's the whole recipe, and we use the word "recipe" very loosely:

Slice an apple. Sprinkle on a pinch of Coffee Dust. Microwave for 20 seconds.

Eat it.

That's the blog post. You're welcome.

Okay fine, a little more.

The two flavors that were basically born for this moment are Healthful and Gingerbread. Healthful — with its cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, and black pepper — turns a plain apple slice into something that tastes like it was simmered in a pot all afternoon, by someone's grandmother, who really had her life together. Gingerbread adds allspice, clove, and nutmeg to the party and suddenly your Tuesday night snack tastes like a county fair in October.

Twenty seconds in the microwave is all it takes. The apple softens just enough. The spices bloom into the warm fruit. The whole thing smells so good your family will wander in from other rooms asking what you're baking.

You're not baking anything. You're standing at the microwave in your socks. This is your secret.

The cinnamon in both blends has been studied for its ability to help regulate blood sugar — which, when you're eating something that tastes like apple pie filling, feels almost unfairly good. You're out here eating dessert and doing something kind for your body at the same time.

That's not a compromise. That's a win.

Some people add a tiny drizzle of honey. Some people eat it over yogurt. Some people have made it four nights in a row and aren't even a little sorry about it. You'll figure out your version.

But start with the apple. Start with the pinch. Start with the 20 seconds.

And then try to convince yourself this doesn't count as dessert. You won't be able to.
